Triple J breakfast hosts Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton are leaving the public broadcaster to take-up a commercial radio gig in their hometown of Adelaide.

The pair, who have fronted the youth radio station's breakfast show for the past three years, are set to hang up their headphones in two weeks. Nova 91.9 has confirmed the ABC personalities will replace outgoing breakfast hosts Dylan Lewis and Hayley Pearson.

Nova bosses hope 'Ben and Liam' will cement the commercial broadcaster's dominance in the city of churches. This month's radio ratings survey put Nova 91.9 breakfast show's audience share at 10.5 per cent behind ABC Adelaide and FM rival Mix 102.3.

Paul Jackson, Nova's head of programming, said 'Ben and Liam' have proven themselves to be "top-class radio broadcasters".

"We've been watching their progress for some time and with recent announcements around our Adelaide breakfast show, the perfect opportunity has arisen for us to bring the boys back to their hometown of Adelaide," he said. "The guys have great chemistry, tell great stories and are laugh-out-loud funny."

The ABC has confirmed 'Ben and Liam' will be replaced by Triple J's weekend afternoon hosts Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett in 2020. While Triple J has previously had double-header programs hosted by two women, including Helen Razor and Judith Lucy's drive show in the 1990s, station bosses believe this is the first time two women have hosted Triple J breakfast.

Coleman said she and Erica would ensure that discovering the "best new music" would remain part of Triple J breakfast in 2020.

"We're music nerds," she said. "But we're also super keen to throw ourselves into some great conversations with Triple J listeners. We're equally at home talking about the dumb shit you did on the weekend, the coolest new science discoveries or hearing stories that make you feel something deeper."

Apart from being radio hosts, 'Sally and Erica' are also artists who perform under the stage moniker Coda Conduct. The hip-hop duo have performed at festivals such as Groovin' The Moo, Spilt Milk, Listen Out and will soon release their second EP.

Harvey and Stapleton's last day on air for Triple J breakfast will be Friday, November 1. Regular Triple J fill-in Lucy Smith will then take carriage of the program for the rest of the year.

The Ben and Liam show on Nova Adelaide will kick-off in January 2020.
